How mediation works

Mediation is an informal, effective process in which the disputing parties have an opportunity to discuss the issues, generate some options, negotiate and agree on solutions and outcomes.
It is the parties who, with the help and guidance of the mediators, control the content and the results.
Mediation's primary role is the solution of the task at hand and a comprehensive plan of action for the future.
Mediation is a collaborative process in which each party is encouraged to solve problems. One of the aims of mediation is to try and preserve relationships, where and when needed.

Managing conflict with mediation

Conflict is a normal part of life. We will all experience it at some point in our lives. It is, however, the way in which we manage the conflict that is important. When people are in conflict the pull is in many directions, the "waters are muddied" and it can be very difficult to find solutions. Mediation, because it is task focused, can help clarify the issues. Its future focus can assist with liveable options.

Mediation is for you if:

You are part of a dispute or conflict and feeling stressed as a result.
You are unsure of how to manage or resolve the dispute.
Your dispute or conflict is spiralling out of control.
You want to prevent further drawn-out arguments and disagreements.
You want to settle the problem, feel better and move on with your life.
You want to avoid escalating legal costs and/or going to court.
There is a workplace dispute adversely affecting the organisation and the individuals.
